Anton Iurmanov

Cand. Sci. (Biology) (2023)

Anton Iurmanov, Cand. Sci. (Biology) (2023), graduated from the Faculty of Geography at Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2018. He worked at the Expeditionary Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian Geographical Society, leading large-scale projects. Since 2025, he has held the position of Vice-Rector for Research at Murmansk Arctic University. He is the author of over 50 scientific papers, and his research covers Arctic ecosystems, phytogeography, and sustainable development issues. For his work, he has received departmental awards, including the "Outstanding Conservationist" badge and prizes from the Ministry of Education and Science and the Russian Geographical Society.

Mikhail Shilin

Professor, Dr. Sci. (Geography), and Cand. Sci (Biology)

Mikhail Shilin is a Professor, Dr. Sci. (Geography), and Cand. Sci (Biology). He graduated from Leningrad State University in 1980. Since 1990, he has been working at the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU), holding the position of Professor since 2006. The author of over 300 scientific works, he specializes in assessing the vulnerability of coastal and marine ecosystems and ensuring the environmental safety of major port projects (Primorsk, Ust-Luga, Sabetta). Professor Shilin is actively engaged in teaching, has developed original academic courses, and has supervised several Candidate of Sciences. For his achievements, he has been awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Ministry of Education and Science and is an Honorary Worker of RSHU.


 

Natalya Schebarova

Dr. Sci. (Economics), Professor

Natalya Schebarova is a Dr. Sci. (Economics) and a Professor. She holds the position of Professor at the Department of Economics and Management, Institute of Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship of Murmansk Arctic University.

Aleksey Fadeev

Aleksey Fadeev is а specialist with over 20 years of experience in major energy companies, an author of more than 150 scientific articles and 11 monographs. He holds leadership positions at Gazpromneft-Snabzhenie LLC and the Institute of Oil and Gas Technological Initiatives, and is also a professor at several leading technical universities in the country. He is actively involved in the development of the Arctic, leading expert groups at the Russian Gas Society and the Government of St. Petersburg. He serves as an expert for media outlets (RBC, TASS) and is a member of doctoral dissertation councils at leading Russian universities. He holds the title of Honorary Doctor of Murmansk Arctic University and is the Executive Director of the Association of Polar Explorers of the Murmansk Region.

Evgeniy Abakumov

Dr. Sci. (Biology), Professor

Evgeny Abakumov is a Dr. Sci. (Biology), Professor, and Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). He heads the Department of Applied Ecology at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) and works in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. He is the author of 414 publications in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and 710 publications in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). He has also published 10 patents, 6 monographs, and 2 textbooks. His research interests include soil science, soil biology, soil chemistry, classification and genesis of polar region soils, humus formation and humification, land reclamation, climate projects, carbon units, nuclear magnetic resonance and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, as well as Arctic and Antarctic ecosystems.


 

Ahmad Alaa Ali

Cand. Sci. (Geography)

Ahmad Alaa Ali is a Cand. Sci. (Geography) and an Ecology Expert at the General Directorate of Syrian Ports (Latakia). He graduated with honors from Tishreen University in Syria and later completed his master's and postgraduate studies at the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU) in Saint Petersburg, where he defended his dissertation in Geoecology. His research focuses on protecting coastal and marine ecosystems from the impacts of port construction and operation, as well as applying the principles of integrated coastal zone management. He is the author of more than 10 scientific publications in WoS and Scopus journals and a participant in international conferences. In addition to his scientific work, he is also engaged in literary activities.


 

Vladimir Zhigulskiy

Cand. Sci. (Technology)

Vladimir Zhigulskiy is a Cand. Sci. (Technology), an Honored Ecologist of the Russian Federation, the Director of Eco-Express-Service LLC, and the Head of the Laboratory for Managing the Impact of Hydraulic Engineering Works on Marine Ecosystems. Under his leadership, the company developed and implemented treatment facilities at key federal sites, including the St. Petersburg Flood Prevention Facility Complex, the Olympic venues in Sochi, the ports of Bronka and Ust-Luga, as well as in North Korea. He initiated the creation of the Research and Production Center for Ecological Products in Shlisselburg. Zhigulsky heads a working group for the international cross-border cooperation program "Russia – South-East Finland" on environmentally safe coastal management. He is also an independent expert for the State Environmental Expertise, a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of Rosprirodnadzor, and a consultant to the State Duma Committee on Natural Resources, Environmental Management, and Ecology.


 

Galina Zhigunova

Dr. Sci. (Sociology)

Galina Zhigunova is a Dr. Sci. (Sociology) and an Associate Professor. She holds the position of Head of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities. Her place of work is the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education "Murmansk Arctic University" in Murmansk, Russian Federation.


 

Aleksey Zimin

Aleksey Zimin is a specialist in the field of physical geography of the ocean, he is a Chief Research Fellow at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Professor at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), and a Chief Research Fellow at the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is a Dr. Sci. (Geography), and his research interests focus on studying sub-mesoscale processes (such as internal waves and eddies) in the seas of the Arctic and Pacific Oceans, as well as on improving methods of oceanographic observation. He is the author of over 180 scientific works, including a monograph on sub-tidal processes in the White Sea, and has publications in Scopus and Web of Science journals. He is a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Fundamental and Applied Hydrophysics" and the "Limnology and Oceanology" series of the Proceedings of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He has been awarded a Letter of Commendation from the Committee for Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg.

Evgeniy Istomin is a Professor, Dr. Sci. (Technology), Honored Worker of Science and High Technologies of the Russian Federation, and Laureate of the St. Petersburg Government Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Higher and Secondary Vocational Education. Director of the Institute of Information Systems and Geotechnologies, Russian State Hydrometeorological University, St. Petersburg, Russia.

He holds the position of Leading Research Fellow and Head of the Laboratory of Geoecology of the North at the Faculty of Geography. Zhang Zifeng

Zhang Zifeng is an Associate Professor at the School of Environment, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Harbin, China. He began his career at HIT in 2014 under the supervision of Ren Nanqi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Li Yifan, senior scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada. Since his graduate studies, he has focused on quantitative analysis and non-target screening of organic pollutants, studying the environmental fate of pollutants in the Songhua River basin and their behavior in urban wastewater treatment systems. Over the course of seven years, Zhang Zifeng studied and worked at the University at Albany, State University of New York (USA), the National Laboratory for Environmental Analysis of Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Environmental Safety and Health Centre of Unilever (UK), and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). He has led more than 10 projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and international collaborations within the University of the Arctic (UArctic). He is the author of over 130 Web of Science-indexed articles, with more than 10 of them in leading journals such as Science Bulletin, Science Advances, Environmental Science & Technology, and Water Research as first or corresponding author. His H-index is 41. He holds six invention patents, authored an analytical report for Environment and Climate Change Canada, and developed one regional standard for Heilongjiang Province. He is currently a member of the Arctic Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES), a member of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Committee, an expert of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), and a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).

Evgeniya Chibis is a Cand. Sci. (Economics). She holds the position of Head of the United Volunteer Center of the Murmansk Region, as well as Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Management, Institute of Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship.
